This month we meet you with our instructor David Brooks. We asked David to tell us a bit more about himself.

Q: Does the aviation gene run in your family?
A: My father and uncle were in the Royal Air Force – uncle went onto to fly for BC and BA and retired as Senior First Officer on 777.

Q: Is there a childhood dream involved in your choice of career?
A: My father was a teacher and then headmaster, so you could say education is in my blood.

Q: In your opinion, what is the most valuable quality a person should have in your line of work?
A: I would deffinitely point out the ability to listen and doing it properly.

Q: What are the most enjoyable aspects of the job? And the most challenging?
A: Being a specialist in the aviation industry requires a lot of time, labour and commitment, but when you reach that level it ends up being a profitable job. Regarding the challenges, it’s often difficult to find common ground with an organisation or Senior Manager that is clouded in nostalgia; i.e. when “training is irrelevant and/or not as good as in my day!”

Q: How do you find ways to make your work more interesting for you and your trainees?
A: I usually try to use humour during the training process.

Q: Would you like to share some interesting and extraordinary experience involving your work?
A: The oldest student I have had on any course I have delivered is 82 – EASA Part 145 and the youngest 5 – on a ski training session (I’m a BASI Alpine Ski Instructor).

Q: What activities do you enjoy outside of work?
A: I like skiing and travelling, but when I’m not away, I like watching films and going to the theatre.

We thank David  for his time and wish him all the best in his future professional endeavors!
