> Report: Data Suggests Intentional Nosedive in China Eastern Plane Crash
Recovered flight data reportedly indicates that someone on the flight deck of a China Eastern Airlines flight intentionally crashed the Boeing 737-800 last March 21, killing all 132 people on board, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday. The journal report cites “people familiar with U.S. officials’ preliminary assessment of what led to the accident.” Read more
>> Saudi Arabia Will Base Its New Airline In Riyadh
This will allow the country to implement a dual-hub strategy.
Just under a year ago, Saudi Arabia announced its plans to launch a new national airline. Rather than replacing the existing flag carrier Saudia, the country plans instead for the new airline to operate alongside its main airline. As such, it has devised a two-hub strategy, which will see the new carrier based in Riyadh. Read more
> Flexjet To Monitor Fleet with GE Digital Mx Software
Flexjet has signed on to GE Digital’s Maintenance Insight software, making it the first fractional aircraft operator to use the system across its fleet to predict and prevent disruptions and reduce maintenance costs. Read more

Lawmakers in the European Parliament’s environment committee have voted to include all flights departing from Europe in the EU’s carbon market while speeding up the phase out of free carbon allowances, a move that would force airlines to pay more to pollute. Read more
> Flight Consulting Group Extends Ground Handling to Spain
Latvia-based FCG OPS has partnered with Spanish FBO operator General Aviation Service (GAS) in a move that will extend FCG’s ground-handling network to include eight FBOs operated by GAS. Founded in 1979, GAS now has bases in Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga, Palma de Mallorca, Valencia, Granada, Gerona, and Ibiza, and the deal will allow FCG to offer a full range of ground handling services in the region, including aircraft handling and refueling, flight permit assistance, and travel services. A Boeing 787 was being used for a freight flight flew from Melbourne, Australia, to Los Angeles, California, United States, with tape over four of its static ports, a new ATSB investigation report details. Read more
