The goal of Aircraft Maintenance Capacity Planning is to provide the best possible combination of factors to deliver an acceptable service level in a cost effective manner.

Aircraft Maintenance Capacity Planning comprises all the functions related to the preparation of:

The engineering or work order together with the associated  Material  or  Purchase requisition.

To deliver effective Aircraft Maintenance Capacity Planning it is necessary to ensure that all  Technical Information is available.

Manpower planning considerations typically including standard times which are based on the organization factor for example Maintenance Planning Document (MPD times 1.5 or 2.0).

All data needed should be available prior to scheduling and releasing the work order.

It should be clearly understood that good planning is a prerequisite for sound scheduling.

Start by determining the job content, then follow up with a detailed work plan (This normally entails identifying and recording the sequence of all the activities contained within the job together with establishing the best methods and procedures to accomplish the job).

Follow the step by step guide to deliver effective Aircraft Maintenance Capacity Planning:

1/ Establish Manpower Requirement for the job or series of Jobs which are being analyzed.

2/ Plan and order all parts and materials to ensure no bottle necks are created .

3/ As in item 2 above Plan and order as required tooling and Equipment again to ensure there are no bottle necks introduced.

4/ It is essential for efficient operation to ensure the management of competency for the staff performing the tasks.

5/ As a good practice it is worthwhile at this point to review any safety procedures involved in the process.

6/ Now is the time to set or adjust any priorities applicable to the  maintenance work.

7/ This is the point to involve the accounting process and assign cost accounts, if in fact this is a valid consideration.

8/ Now it is appropriate to complete the work order.

9/ It is worthwhile to review any over- runs or backlog and develop plans for controlling it.

10/ Whilst performing 9/ it is appropriate to manage oversight metrics for any ongoing determinations.

Further understanding of the Capacity Planning Framework.

Capacity Planning is a systematic approach to three issues pertaining to capacity.

1/ Estimating the amount of capacity our system requires, in our case the system to deliver effective airline maintenance.

2/ Considering the need for and evaluating alternative methods of augmenting capacity.

3/ Devising various methods to use existing Capacity elements more effectively.
