Steve Bentley MD of Sofema Aviation Services discusses the merits of an effective TTT Course Program

What is Train the Trainer?

It is a program whereby we train adult educators on the various techniques to deliver effective training in subjects which cover in-depth an understanding of effective training techniques, learning styles and communication processes applicable to adult learning.

This is a real program requiring full engagement from the students – it is not possible to be a passive participant to a program which is going to serve to develop you as an effective trainer.

As such the time that is devoted to you as an individual during the program is of significant importance.

Of course, effective Training and Quality Managers will recognise the need to manage Trainer Competence most effectively and typically advocate for small groups.

Why offer to Train the Trainer?

Because for organisations of a certain size internal training programs are the most effective and worthwhile way of delivering the required training courses.

Does SAS sell Training Material?

Yes we offer full support to our clients including the possibility of purchasing our material for delivery “in-company”

Is the TTT program interactive?

The program is highly interactive with each of the participants engaging several times throughout the program during discussion and exercises.

The program is designed to bring the best out of the student and to grow the confidence in the ability of the student and in particular new students to fully engage with the role of instructor and facilitator.

What is the ideal class size for Train the Trainer Courses?

The ideal number is around 8 persons however up to 12 persons is manageable considering for example that with 12 persons there will be up to 6 hours of final presentation as part of the program.

Why does SAS allow 15 persons for PTP partners to attend a single training?

Above 12 persons there is an additional delegate fee which is levied on persons who join the program.  This number is increased to 15 persons for companies who are Privileged Training Partners.

For the majority of courses, larger groups will be quite ok as they are Instructor-led courses designed to understand a particular subject or subjects.

However, the ability to increase the class size to 15 persons is not necessarily a positive and Training Managers are advised to consider the impact on the effectiveness of larger groups
(TTT being a perfect example)

Does SAS allow an increase of numbers up to 20 or more?

For regulatory training we will agree to class sizes of 20 and occasionally more (Under Special Circumstances) However we prefer not to increase Train the Trainer Class sizes above 15 persons.

Why to limit class size for the train?

Because of the need for delegate engagement – with 20 students for example each to make a 30-minute presentation will take a total of 10 hours (The course envisages a ½ Day for this purpose)

Is there a way of achieving a larger class size?

Yes above 15 persons we recommend increasing the class duration by 1 further day to allow for full student interaction. Without increasing the time it is not possible to complete the training to the professional standard which we offer.  So we would prefer to limit the course to 15 participants (ideally – 12 participants)

Is there any additional charge for the increased number of students?

Yes there is a daily fee of 20 USD  or 30 USD depending on whether you are a PTP client
