Step 1: Know your audience?

We are focusing on delivering effective Aviation Human Factors training so it is important that we know who our audience is. Whether it is Base, Line, Workshop, Ancillary or Management, will have a bearing on the focus of the training.

We also have to accept that there are different learning styles which need to be accommodated. There are three primary learning styles: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic-tactile.

Visual learners Focus on body language and facial expressions together with other visual reference information in order to fully comprehend the value of the training. Auditory learners prefer listening to information and kinesthetic-tactile . Learners prefer a hands-on approach.

Step 2: Preparation of Training Objectives

Whilst we know we are delivering HF training we should still pay sufficient attention to understanding who is being trained? Together with the objectives, taking into account the organisations need (for example delivering SMS enhancements).

What recent information should be adopted and included within the training for example are there any issues from the Quality or Safety System which should be incorporated.

Step 3: Are you Organised

To be effective you should ensure that the delivery of you r training is organized from the beginning of your training session until the end.

Ideally the training should be a balance of Chronological and Sequential flowing delivery
Make sure that the learning sequence is achievable include real-world examples as these will help the delegate to focus and connect easily with your training material.

By organizing your material, you will be able to effectively manage your time. Make sure you allow yourself time to summarize the points and objectives of your training as well as ask questions to ensure that your message got through Checking for Understanding (CFU).

Step 4: Now to Address Learning Styles

Make sure everyone can see your facial expressions and movement. Provide visuals and handouts to get your to the delegates. Make sure that all the delegates can easily hear you, if necessary you may need a mic and speaker system.

Step 5: Selling the Image and using media

Words make pictures! So use powerful words and graphics that help them create mental images. Choose media that is connected and consequently will be effective.

Step 6: Really Practice Makes for Perfection

Review your material to check for an even flow and to identify any gaps or “clunky” parts. Also practicing the delivery of your material will reduce your nervousness, It will also help you to improve delivery time management.
Step 7 Interest is King!

To Keep your Audience Interested use real-life examples and thought-provoking questions, Q & A sessions are a very important part of your training so why not prepare for them beforehand. when you answer questions, make sure to repeat the question for all to hear, and then answer concisely while keeping eye contact with the questioner.
