Aircraft Maintenance Programme (AMP), Maintenance Planning Document (MPD)

The AMP belongs to the operator and is approved by the applicable regulatory authority, The MPD is controlled by the manufacturer and is periodically revised following meetings of the Maintenance Review Board (MRB)

Consider the Role of the Aircraft Maintenance Programme (AMP), Maintenance Planning Document (MPD)

Firstly the MPD

This is the consolidated document which combines the work of the Type Certificate Holder (TCH) with the Maintenance Review Board (MRB)

The MRB itself is working under the direction of The Industry Steering Committee who develop the MRB guidance document typically known as the Policy & Procedures Handbook

The Type Certificate Holder performs a System Safety Assessment (SSA) and the MRB under the oversight of the Industry Steering Committee delivers a Maintenance Review Board Report (MRBR) which is derived from the analysis process typically referred to as MSG 3. (First Introduced in 1980 and now over 35 years mature) This analysis process takes notice of the Structural Integrity and also the Corrosion Protection Corrosion Prevention Program (CPCP)

The MRBR delivers to the Maintenance Planning Document the various tasks which need to be packaged to deliver the required maintenance to support the aircraft in service.

The SSA delivers the Airworthiness Limitations which are applicable for the Aircraft ( Airframe / Engine, Structures and Systems) such limitation will become “mandatory tasks” and be added to the limitation section of the MPD.

Now the MP

The MP is also a consolidated document – consists of the content of the MPD together with the various Buyer Furnished Equipment (BFE) or customer furnished equipment (CFE) (Seats, IFE, Monuments, Galleys, Emergency Equipment etc)

The MP is owned by the Operator and is initially created based on the MPD however subsequently it is the responsibility of the Operator to develop the MP in the light of in service experience also taking into consideration the Service Bulletin (SB) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) and Repair History of the Aircraft all of which may need to be incorporated into the MP

Warning & Cautions related to the AMP

Check Repair History and Repeat Inspections are correctly recorded into the Maintenance Program

Check the BFE/ CFE is also recorded within the Maintenance Program

Check the annual review process to analyse the effectiveness of the Maintenance Program is “Real & Effective”
