Sofema Aviation Services looks at the process to ensure effective EASA Part 145 Fuel Tank Safety (FTS) and Electrical Wiring Interconnect System (EWIS) – Training
Introduction
Sofema has been providing for several years support to help organisation achieve a high level of “In Company” – related to the “self-management” of EASA 145 Initial & Recurrent Training.
FTS owes its origins to the analysis following the inflight break up of Flight TWA 800 in July 1996. The origins of EWIS in fact go back a lot further but did not take on a formal identity until Aug 1996 when a White House Commission under the directorship of vice president Al gore was set up.
EWIS & FTS Instructor Train the Trainer Course
The purpose of this course is to provide your training personnel with the necessary awareness of the EASA regulatory framework and of their responsibilities with respect to EASA regulatory requirements for Approved Maintenance Organisations (AMO).
Additional to this program SAS and our Sister Organisation SofemaOnline offer both classroom and online training related to instructional techniques within an EASA Part 145 / Part 147 environment.
NOTE: As laid out in 145.A.30 of the EASA regulations; organisations have to establish and control the competence of personnel involved in any maintenance, development of maintenance programmes, airworthiness reviews, management, and/or quality audits.
Initial and continuation EWIS & FTS training is a mandatory & integral part of an effective maintenance organisation and becomes an essential part of managing the competence of your certifying personnel.

Combining EWIS & FTS training into a single “In Company” Training provides several specific advantages due to many commonalities of the source material.
Techniques for engaging the delegate to deliver effective and meaningful training in the context of FTS & EWIS are covered in depth.
Training for adult learners brings specific challenges that need to be addressed if the training is going to deliver the maximum benefit for the delegate.
