Introduction
In accordance with EASA regulations class size is limited depending on the physical size and capacity of the room.
Examinations are only to be conducted in examination rooms that are prepared in accordance with Training Procedures requirements.
The maximum number of candidates taking an examination is 28 which corresponds to the maximum number of participants allowed in a theoretical training course.
Invigilator Roles Responsibilities & Nominations
When an examination is scheduled, an invigilator must be nominated to supervise the examination process.
The nominated invigilator must have complete independence in the examination process and should not have been involved in the training delivery.
The exam invigilator is an appointed person whose responsibility is ensuring that examinations are conducted in accordance with this MTOE and Training Procedures.
The Invigilator works under the direction and responsibility and delegation of the Training Manager.
The organization can nominate permanent exam invigilators who will be listed in MTOE Part 1 and qualified in accordance with Training Procedures.
Note – The exam invigilator can also hold other positions within the organization.
Typically, all instructors are qualified invigilators and can assist with the invigilation process and preparation of the examination room.
For examinations conducted at remote sites, the EASA Part 147 training Organisation will agree with the customer beforehand the nomination of a responsible person that could act as invigilator (Ad Hoc). The Training Manager will liaise with the customer to ensure a responsible person is nominated as an invigilator in accordance with Training Procedures.
Concerning the need to provide Examinations to a Large Group in a “Smaller” Examination Room
When two groups of candidates are to be examined, a second invigilator is required to be nominated. For purposes of explaining this invigilation procedure, the groups will be named as first group (the group sitting the examination) and second group (the group not being examined).
The examination brief will cover this abnormal set up emphasizing the importance that the procedures herein identified are adhered to and the consequences of any violation of these procedures.
The first group will sit the exam supervised by the nominated invigilator while the second group will silently wait outside away from the examination room supervised by the second invigilator.
The examination will be conducted as normal, in accordance with Training Procedures, however no candidates from this first group will be allowed to leave the examination room until the examination has finished, and the invigilator is in possession of all exam papers and answer sheets.
The invigilator will take the first group candidates out of the examination room in an orderly and silently manner.
Once the examination room is evacuated the invigilator will verify the examination room is clear and acceptable for the second group to come in.
The second invigilator should make sure that the second group remained sterile and no communication is taking place with candidates of the first group.
If any kind of communication is noticed or suspected the examination of the parties involved will be immediately invalidated.
No candidates from the second group will be allowed to leave the examination room until everybody has finished the examination and the invigilator is in possession of all exam papers and answer sheets and the invigilator authorizes the candidates to leave.
The invigilator will notify the second invigilator that the examination has finished.
