Basic Training for Airport Security Personnel – 5 Days

Introduction –

The course, followed by a minimum of six months of practical experience working under the guidance of a qualified AVSEC supervisor in the field, will train basic airport security personnel to enforce, monitor and apply airport security preventative measures in accordance with locally approved programmes.

Session 10: Access Control and the purpose

Day 3
Session 11: Protecting Aircraft
Session 12: Searching and Guarding Aircraft
Session 13: Preparing People for Security Checks
Session 14: Recognition of Firearms, IED’s & IID’s
Session 15: Searching a Facility
Session 16: Searching Vehicles

Day 4
Session 17: Using X-Ray equipment
Session 18: Conventional X-ray Equipment
Session 19: X-Ray Image Recognition
Session 20: Advanced Cabin Baggage X-Ray (ACBX)
Session 21: Explosive Detection systems (EDS)
Session 22: Threat Image projection (TIP)
Session 23: Explosive Trace Detection Equipment (ETD)

Day 5
Session 24: Liquids Testing Equipment
Session 25: Advanced Walk Through & Hand Held Metal Detectors. (AWTMD _ HHMD)
Session 26: Searching People and their cabin and hold baggage
Session 27: Examination
Session 28: Course Evaluation and Closing Ceremony

Target Groups –

The target population will be new entrants and existing personnel at the basic level employed by the authority or organization primarily responsible for the application of aviation security preventative measures at airports and from such other aviation related agencies engaged in support activities.

Pre-requisites –

Trainees should satisfy the following criteria:

a) Have satisfactorily completed secondary school or equivalent education; and
b) Have written and oral command of the language of instruction.

Learning Objectives –

The course has been designed to enable selected security personnel to:

a) Work in and move about an airport safely;

b) Communicate and cooperate with other airport agencies;

c) Control the movement of people and vehicles;

d) Guard and patrol airport vulnerable areas, facilities and aircraft;

e) Recognize weapons and explosive/incendiary devices;

f) Inspect/screen/search passengers and baggage;

g) Respond to airport emergency situations; and

h) Escort people and consignments.

Duration –

5 Days – Each training day will commence at 09.00 and finish at 17.00, with appropriate refreshment breaks.
