INTRODUCTION
Dangerous goods are commodities that can be dangerous in specific circumstances. These materials may be transported by air only if suitable precautions are taken. Dangerous goods consist not only of obvious substances such as corrosive, explosives and flammables, but also include less apparent articles like devices containing lithium batteries and spare batteries.
To ensure safe transport of dangerous goods by air there are internationally agreed rules, published by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) named Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) annually publishing Dangerous Goods Regulations which are fully compliant with latest edition ICAO TI and based on Annex 18 to the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation.
This training is based at latest edition of IATA DGR and itβs designed for the shippers (Category 1 from the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations Table 1.5.A). The training also gives students full understanding of packing, labeling and documentation of Lithium Batteries. Recurrent training must take place within 24 months of previous training to ensure knowledge is current.
Detailed Content / Topics – The following Subjects will be addressed
After successful completion of this training the student will be able to:
– apply the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations correctly;
– apply the legal aspects involved;
– identify dangerous goods;
– navigate through the List of Dangerous Goods;
– understand the packing requirements and packing instructions;
– properly mark and label a dangerous goods packages;
– correctly complete Shipper’s Declaration for Dangerous Goods and appropriate Airwaybil;
– follow general emergency procedures when a damaged or leaking package is discovered.
– Define lithium batteries
– Classify and determine proper shipping names and UN numbers of Lithium Batteries
– Correctly pack, mark and label shipments containing lithium Batteries
– Properly complete required documentation
Target groups
This training is based at latest edition of IATA DGR and itβs designed for the Shippers (Category 1 from the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations Table 1.5.A).
Pre-requisites
Working knowledge of English language is required. As well basic principles of transport of cargo by air. Possession of the latest edition of IATA DGR is a must
