UK airlines have been told to cancel flights they can’t deliver this summer to stop a rerun of May’s travel chaos. The government and the aviation regulator wrote to carriers on Tuesday telling them to ensure their summer timetables were “deliverable”. Read more

Boeing will meet with US and European regulators concerning the Boeing 777X program next week. While certification is still some way off, the meeting will explore problems and solutions with the 777X as Boeing strives to certify its aircraft. Read more

Spanish trade unions call for flight crews to walk out from June 24 to July 2 to demand better work conditions. Read more
>> Wizz CEO under fire for fatigue comments
Wizz Air is facing a backlash from pilot unions after the airline’s boss appeared to call on crew to work through fatigue. CEO Jozsef Varadi said staff should go “the extra mile” when tired so that the airline could avoid canceling flights. Pilot unions said flying when fatigued is dangerous and his comments showed a “deficient safety culture”. Read more

Tunisia shut down all international flights after the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT), the national trade union representing the interests of workers of different industries, initiated a public strike over deteriorating economic conditions and measures proposed by the local government to counter the financial crisis. > Wizz Air Reopens Its Summer-Seasonal Burgas Base With 1 Airbus A320
Wizz Air has reopened its summer base at Burgas, on the Bulgarian Black Sea. The base at Burgas, which opened last year, is one of a handful of airports at which European carriers station aircraft and crew for a few months in the summer to capture peak season demand. Indeed, Burgas is an extraordinarily summer-seasonal airport, with the vast majority of passengers between June and September. Read more
