Lease Return Story 1

One Engine failed the final borescope and off course the Lessor would not accept the aircraft and no substitute engine available.
The engine needed an Engine Shop Visit to rectify and meet the required Redelivery Conditions. Engine removed but ESV Slot not immediately available.
ESV input found after one month and required a one-month input, Engine was then reinstalled back on wing.
End of Lease C Check now more than 30 days from Redelivery Date, another of the redelivery conditions therefore another C Check required at short notice.
MRO input not immediately available, one confirmed after 6 weeks.
The pain was not over – the aircraft was finally redelivered over three months late with the Airline (on top of all the other expenses) paying double rent for the period of the overrun.

  • Read the lease – Especially Definitions, AD Compliance, Configuration
  • Documentation – To include Tech Records – Electronic or physical Review – Certificates and Form of Certificates
  • Redelivery Conditions 1 (Overview) Parts, 120% Rule, PMA, EPA, Burn Certs, Repairs, DER
  • Lessor Engagement – Discuss internal understanding established in the above items with Lessor
  • Agree on EOL sequence of events – Major Check, Livery, Ground Checks, Demo Flight, Defect Rectification, Redelivery
  • Mutual understanding and get it in writing so there are no surprises
