Presenter: Steve Bentley MD of Sofema Aviation Services (www.sassofia.com)

When: Tuesday 14th May – 09:30 – 10:00: Session 1

Where: Holiday Inn Hotel, Sofia, Bulgaria

EASA Quality Background

What is an EASA Quality System and is it different from other systems around the world?

Essentially it consists of a method to deliver the organisations “product” under the control of nominated persons – this is a “Control of Quality” together with an independent function to assess compliance and this is known as “Quality Assurance”.

During the symposium we will understand and consider the challenges faced by any organisation OPS / Airport / AMO / Continuing Airworthiness to deliver an effective system and to deliver the following message:

“Compliance with EASA is a step on the journey and not the Destination!”

About Aviation Quality and Safety Management in an EASA Environment Symposium:

The Symposium will focus on many of the key Quality & Safety issues which we typically face in today’s European Aviation System. Providing a platform for Inspiring Presentations, positive dialogue and in-depth exchange of ideas, concepts, and visions related to ensuring the most effective quality and safety system. Whether you are an Airlines, Airport, MRO, Aerospace Manufacturer, or Ground Handling Organisation the success of the Quality and Safety department is pivotal in delivering confidence to the business.

Benefits of attending the Symposium:

  • To Bring stakeholders together on a common platform to discuss issues of mutual interest
  • To raise the Profile of Key Safety and Quality Employees within EASA Compliant Organisations
  • Highlight the contribution of the Safety and Quality business areas to support the positive development of the organisation and to achieve minimal exposure
  • To raise awareness regarding risk management

Who is Steve Bentley?

My aviation career started in 1971 I have spent the entire period in commercial aviation. Becoming in 1976 the youngest licensed aircraft engineer in the country when I obtained UK AMEL – Aircraft Maintenance Engineers License at the age of 21.

In 1991 I joined Virgin Atlantic Airways initially on the line at Heathrow airport moving to Quality Assurance and later Airworthiness in 1993.

In 2008 I founded Sofema Aviation Services (SAS) with the intention of delivering EASA Compliant Regulatory Training across both the Operations and Maintenance business areas.

Benefiting from broad industry experience, my primary focus is on Effective implementation of process and procedures within an organisation, both a major opportunity and also the source of waste revenue and resources.

Taken together an effective “Quality Assurance System” as well as a strong “Training & Competence Management Process”, embedded within an EASA Framework can become a major business driver leading to the development of effective and efficient process and procedures.
