Human Factors in Aviation – 1 Day Introduction for Manager and Executives

Introduction

This training serves as a critical exploration of the link between Human Factors (HF), incidents, and accidents within the regulatory framework of EASA Regulation (EU) 1321/2014. While the aviation industry has made significant technical strides, statistics show that at least 80% of aviation-related incidents still involve human factors, with a significant proportion related to maintenance error. For leadership teams, a core realization of this course is that regulatory compliance does not automatically equal safety; an organization can possess perfect paperwork yet harbor a toxic safety culture that eventually leads to a catastrophe.

The curriculum moves beyond the individual mechanic to examine the “Swiss Cheese Model,” illustrating how latent failures in leadership and organization—such as poor planning or lack of tooling—interact with active failures to breach defenses. Participants will confront the “Production vs. Protection” dilemma, recognizing how commercial pressures can tacitly reward shortcuts. By understanding human limitations like fatigue, stress, and complacency, managers will learn to implement strategic mitigations, such as “Just Culture” policies that encourage reporting rather than punishing honest mistakes.

Who is the Course for?

All personnel with duties and/or responsibilities in the Aviation System, Senior Managers and Executives, Airline Ops Staff, and Quality Assurance Staff.

What is the Benefit of this Training – What will I learn?

a) Leaders will learn to identify latent organizational failures
b) Balance commercial pressure with safety standards
c) Ensure that human error is managed proactively through effective reporting systems and operational mitigations
d) Achieve a strong understanding of Safety and Human Factor principles
