Sofema Aviation Services (SAS) has been selected to deliver Safety Management System (SMS) training program to Air Serbia (Etihad partner Airline).

Sofema Aviation Services is pleased  to announce the signing of a contract for the delivery of multiple Aviation Safety Management System training courses to Air Serbia – one of the Balkan Regions foremost airlines. The training is scheduled to be delivered during April & May 2015.

With aviation history going back almost 90 years Air Serbia was formed relatively recently, on 1 August 2013 as a joint initiative between Etihad Airways, and the Government of the Republic of Serbia.

Etihad Airways has signed a five-year contract for management of the newly founded airline in which they received 49% equity share, while JAT Airways was re-branded to Air Serbia. The company has a fleet of 19 aircrafts and its aim is to become a regional leader and to resume its place among the world’s best airlines.

Sofema Aviation Services will deliver an intensive 20 Day Safety Management Systems training program focused on the needs of the Executive Group, Key Staff, as well as training for nominated Safety Management trainers and the Safety Investigation Team.

Commented Steven Bentley MD of Sofema Aviation Services: “We have been developing our Safety Management system product for some time now to ensure it is meaningful practical and relevant in the context of an operators specific needs. The team at SAS is very pleased to have won this contract in the face of stiff competition. With a portfolio of more than 100 regulatory and vocational training courses we are looking forward to more opportunities to support Air Serbia in the future and help them to maintain their position as a leading carrier in the region. With SMS we have a set of regulations, which allow Industry to establish best-practice that fits different cultures and place the main emphasis and duty on improving safety performance. This requires a real “team effort” as regulator and airline are all part of one large system. Working as a team it will be possible to improve an already highly impressive safety record, and allow organisations to conduct more of their own oversight and assurance.”

As part of the training program SAS will support Air Serbia with an in depth Cultural Survey to develop an increased understanding in the employee’s perception of the Safety Management processes.
