The next course is scheduled to take place in Dubai  17th to 21st May 2015 – https://sassofia.com/course/safety-management-systems-train-trainer-5-days-dubai-uae/

Developing an organizational capability to deliver Safety Management Training will benefit the organization and allow the delivery of SMS related training to be targeted and specific.

The primary purpose of this 5 Day training is to focus your SMS Nominated Trainer on the most effective processes for delivering SMS training throughout the organization.

SMS TTT (Safety Management System Train the Trainer) is a highly practical course, and promotes best training practices. It is an industry specific five-day program specifically designed for those who need to manage, or deliver Safety Management System Training. The course is a highly participative and stimulates involvement and provides for powerful motivation. To introduce the delegate to training skills and to provide the confidence which can be developed to deliver effective SMS Training within each specific business area.

How effective is your Safety Management System Training Program?

Is it Organisational wide?

Does it reach to all levels of staff?

Does it stimulate the internal reporting of Hazards and Exposures?

An easy check is to look at your reportable incidents and multiple by a factor of 100 as this is the potential low level exposures with the organisation.

What does the SMS Train the Trainer Program look at?

a)  How can we “teach” adults in the most effective way? Understanding the challenges which we face as trainers.

b)  As Trainers we need to consider our own training skills our strengths and areas where we seek improvements

c) We need to ensure we have a strong and comprehensive understanding of all elements concerning the SMS environment – to teach a subject we must have a strong personal understanding of the subject and be able to communicate in the most effective way.

d) How will we maintain effective competence of our trainers – who will be responsible for the overall assessment and how will we maintain standards?

e) Considering the ideal attributes of an Aviation Trainer and how we can encourage positive behaviours. A range of different techniques which we use for presenting information in the best way

f) How we are going to ensure we cover all the required elements to meet our organisations needs – Do we have sufficient resources to meet our objectives

g) Understanding the various roles including Safety Expert Roles and the need to ensure training is given to the appropriate depth in each case.

h) Adults learn in a different way to children – we need to identify the best way of communicating information to adults and ensuring it is delivered and received in the most appropriate way.

i) Good communication is a skill that can be developed, like other skills, by practicing it and getting the opinions of others on how well you have performed – Considering the skills we need to develop so people “want” to listen to us – to understand the mistakes and errors which people make so we can avoid them

j) Without data the SMS can not deliver to the highest possible standard and it will fall short of our desire to use the SMS to empower our Management System. Consider the opportunities to gather data and how this data will be processed. How will we get this message across ?

k) As a trainer are non verbal skills are essential to delivering an effective training program – understanding how to use to our advantage.

l) Stages to be followed to understand the methodology associated with Risk Assessment and Root Cause Analysis ( step by step approach). How will we train this?

m) How is ERP being managed and developed in our business areas ? what is the training role associated with the management of ERP

n) Hazards – where they exist in the workplace and how we can recognise them and train people to recognise them – Interpretation of How we can view information and to get a message across concerning understanding of risk and exposure

o) Stages to be followed to understand the methodology associated with Risk Assessment and Root Cause Analysis ( step by step approach)

With SMS we have a set of regulations, which allow Industry to establish best-practice that fits different cultures and place the main emphasis and duty on improving safety performance. This requires a real “team effort” as regulator and airline are all part of one large system. Working as a team it will be possible to improve an already highly impressive safety record, and allow organisations to conduct more of their own oversight and assurance.”
