Sofema Aviation Services (SAS) www.sassofia.com looks at the relationship of the Duty Materials Controller within the Maintenance Control Centre (MCC)

Introduction

Maintaining on-time operations with the minimum of technical disruptions is a shared responsibility within the Maintenance Control Centre (MCC). The role of the Duty Materials Planner is essential for the wellbeing of the smooth running of the process.

Coordinate with Maintenance Controllers and other sections to ensure spares and other support items demanded by the operation or maintenance system are prioritized according to need.

In addition to ensuring the maintenance of inventory to support the flying hour programs, maintenance schedules, special projects, and environmental conditions.

The MCC Materials Planner is responsible for the planning and administration, at optimum balance of cost, quality, and supplier service of material required to support aircraft maintenance. Working together with the functioning of the MCC ensures prompt attention to all critical material requirements, especially in the case of AOG situations.

Typical Duties of the MCC Materials Planner

  • Material provision for all controlled line stations (Ensure replenishment is completed in a timely manner) based on:

o Recommended Spare Parts List (RSPL),
o Installed data,
o historic demand, and
o future flight plan.

  • Manage Flight Spare Kit (FSK) List. Update allocation and replenish in a timely manner.
  • Review weekly Loan and Delays taken and adjust allocation accordingly.
  • Provide status & operational reports for management review.
  • To have access to the status of aircraft and ground support equipment and ensure parts are available to maintain Fully Mission Capable (FMC) aircraft and equipment.
  • Able to source equivalent and alternate parts with reference to Aircraft Technical Documents (IPC, CMM, AMM, TB, SB) pertaining to part number creation.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Planning to ensure Unit Changes as well as scheduled maintenance parts are available to meet all requirements.
  • Work with and support the objectives of the following documents (sample):

o Engineering Order (EO),
o Service Bulletins (SB) and

  • Allocate aircraft parts. Assign reorder level requisitions to stores, repairs, or technical procurement to ensure allocations are filled in a timely and the most economic manner.
  • Communicate and resolve aircraft material issues with Engineering, Maintenance, Maintenance Planning, and Quality Assurance.
  • Carry out research and ensure compliance with Ensure all purchases and subcontracting is made through approved vendors with reference to Approved Suppliers List. / Approved Vendor Listing (AVL)
  • Coordinate the addition of new vendors with the Quality Assurance managers (expedite in the case of AOG situation)
