> SAS Strike: The Latest News on the Pilots’ Strike
Since the strike was confirmed on Monday, 587 flights in Norway have been cancelled as of Thursday lunchtime. Of the 174 cancelled flights today (Thursday), 93 were domestic, 59 were within Schengen, and 22 were international flights outside Schengen. Read more

>> Israel, Turkey Sign Bilateral Aviation Agreement in First Since 1951
‘The agreement is expected to result in the resumption of flights by Israeli companies to a variety of destinations in Turkey, alongside flights by Turkish companies to Israel,’ Israeli Transportation Ministry says. Read more

> British Airways to cancel 10,300 more flights
This latest announcement means nearly 30,000 flights will have been removed from BA’s schedule between April and October this year. Read more

>> More flights are scheduled in the U.S. than air traffic control can handle, say authorities
The U.S. aviation system is expected to “remain challenged this summer and beyond,” and its federal regulator needs more air traffic control staff, a senior United Airlines executive said on Wednesday, echoing problems in Canada and Europe. Read more

> Hainan Airlines to launch Beijing – Belgrade service
Hainan Airlines has filed for approval with the Civil Aviation Administration of China to commence nonstop flights between Beijing and Belgrade. Based on the application, the service would start either in July or August, upon receiving necessary permits, although July 16 has been earmarked as the target launch date. Read more

>> Low-cost airlines lead recovery in European aviation
Low-cost carriers Ryanair and Wizz Air are continuing to lead the recovery of Europe’s aviation sector after seeing strong passenger traffic in June.
Ryanair Holdings carried 15.9 million passengers in June, compared with just 5.3 million during the same month last year. Last month’s traffic was also above the 14.2 million passengers carried in June 2019 as the airline operated a total of 88,500 flights. Read more

> After 8 Incidents In 18 Days, SpiceJet Gets Government Notice On Safety
An unusually high number of incidents involving SpiceJet aircraft has prompted the aviation regulator to seek an explanation from the airline. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation, or DGCA, has pointed out big gaps on how the airline is functioning, from operating flights with “degraded safety margins”, issues that point at “poor internal safety oversight” to vendors not being paid on time, leading to shortage of spare parts for the SpiceJet fleet.
