Get to know the SAS Instructor Yasar Keskik – an aviation professional with over 27 years of working experience.
Yasar is an aviation professional and IOSA auditor with significant knowledge and skills in IOSA program and practices. He has broad experience in leading Airline’s Quality Assurance and Compliance Monitoring Functions, Aircraft Maintenance, and Flight Simulation Training Devices. Over the year, the instructor has developed practical skills and deep knowledge of Compliance Monitoring function, Quality Assurance program, Audit Process, Human Factors, Safety and Error Management. Yasar is highly proficient in transferring his holistic knowledge into practical skills, enabling delegates to understand how to implement practical solutions in their workplace. Besides webinar training, the instructor is able to deliver classroom training courses in Turkey.
We asked Yasar a few questions:
1. Initially, what inspired you to start a career in aviation?
When I was a kid, I had a special interest and curiosity about airplanes. In my childhood, I always chose airplanes when I was playing Lego. I loved to assemble and repair planes. That’s why I always preferred to be an engineer & to work in aviation. Besides, as a part of the hospitality industry, aviation has always intrigued me for the added element of travelling and meeting new people. Working in the aviation industry gives me an opportunity to interact with people from different countries, build strong global connections, and experience new cultures.
2. What motivates you as an aviation instructor and what is the best part about being a Sofema trainer?
I worked in the aviation industry for over 27 years without interruption. During this period, I gained significant knowledge, expertise and experience. I have carried out important studies and projects especially in aircraft maintenance, airworthiness and audit processes. It has always been a source of inspiration and dream for me to transfer this experience I have gained for a long time to people who work in aviation and those who are just starting to work. Sofema is a well-known training company in the world with its comprehensive training portfolio. Therefore, working on behalf of Sofema as an instructor, consultant and auditor is very exciting for my future career.
3. Which aspects do you find most rewarding in your career?
I became an international IOSA auditor on behalf of IATA and Argus Pros (USA Company) after very difficult and critical training, qualifications, tasks and exams. This has been an important award for my aviation career.
4. And what challenges have you faced along the way?
I did not have any difficulties in technical matters. There is a huge amount of resources and training options available for people to learn about aviation. I had the biggest problem with some executive people and staff. I have worked with many people who lack leadership qualities, teamwork and managerial skills. It is inspiring to work with leading and instructive people, especially in aviation. Despite this negativity, I never gave up and always looked ahead and improved myself.
5. Besides Aviation, what other areas pique your interest?
I am particularly interested in studies and fields of personal development and strongly believe in the spirit of education in these matters. I prefer to be involved in all kinds of fields and activities that will train, teach and reveal people’s talent.
6. Lastly, what will you advise people who dream of a career in aviation?
I would highly recommend working in aviation to all people that are just starting out. It is in the nature of aviation to travel, meet people from different cultures, experience technological developments and have an important source of documents. Moreover, it is a more profitable sector and industry compared to other fields in terms of earning financial income. Aviation is actually a small community and a lot of people get to know and communicate with each other. It includes a large and strong warm family structure. There are many opportunities for future careers such as an instructor, auditor, subject matter expert and consultant. Due to the main reasons I explained above, aviation is an indispensable field in terms of an outstanding career.
