completed the SOL CAMO Diploma
This is what Athar shared about her working experience:
“I graduated from the University of Baghdad in 2022 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering, and after that, I worked at Fly Baghdad for a year as an Airworthiness Planning Engineer. My role involved handling Work Orders below ‘A’ Checks – basically, preparing, updating, and closing them to keep our aircraft in top shape.
I was responsible for managing the flow of work packages for our fleet, making sure everything moved smoothly between our planning unit and production teams. Keeping our filing system up to date was crucial, too – I took charge of that to ensure everything was organized and accessible. Another big part of my job was compiling reports on maintenance tasks and feedback. This involved gathering data and sharing it with the right teams to keep everyone informed and operations running smoothly. I also worked closely with our Supply Chain to make sure we had all the materials we needed for maintenance tasks. Coordinating with them was key to preventing any delays. And when it came to paperwork for working parties or special tasks, I handled that too, working closely with our Field Service Engineers and making sure all the administrative details were sorted. Throughout my time at Fly Baghdad, I kept a close eye on our hard-time components – basically, the parts that have specific lifespans – ensuring we met all maintenance schedules and regulatory requirements.
Overall, my goal has always been to ensure our aircrafts are safe, efficient, and ready to fly. It’s been a rewarding experience applying what I learned in university to real-world aviation challenges.”
We asked her a couple of questions:
1. How did you find out about the CAMO Diploma?

2. What inspired you to become an Airworthiness Panning Engineer?
“My inspiration to become an Airworthiness Panning Engineer stemmed from my passion for aviation and my desire to contribute to the safety and efficiency of aircraft operations. I have always been fascinated by the intricacies of aircraft maintenance and management, and I wanted to play a pivotal role in ensuring that these processes are carried out to the highest standards. The dynamic nature of the aviation industry and the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies further motivated me to pursue this career path.”
3. How did the CAMO Diploma help you excel in your career?
“Completing the CAMO Diploma through Sofema has been instrumental in my career development. The diploma provided me with in-depth knowledge and a thorough understanding of Continuing Airworthiness Management Organization (CAMO) principles and practices. It equipped me with the necessary skills to manage airworthiness activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. The practical insights and case studies included in the program allowed me to apply what I learned directly to my work, resulting in improved efficiency and effectiveness in my role. The Diploma also enhanced my credentials, making me a more competitive candidate for advanced positions within the industry.”
